Is one chimney enough for the 26”

It just dawned on me that the 26" might have different charcoal requirements.

For high heat grilling, is one chimney enough? Should I buy another chimney? How much charcoal do you use for high heat?

I tried two chimney's yesterday, it was too hot. I grilled carne asada, some of it burned too easy. I know high heat is good for a lot of foods, this might work better with steaks and other foods.  Not sure if you need both but for $15, I'd rather have it and not need it.

I guess I'm just wondering where you want the high heat? Directly over the entire grate? On one side? Different applications and different fuels will garner different results so it is hard to say accurately.

To me, the 26 shines with it's ability
to allow for different heat zones.
It's a lot of real estate.
Never seen the need to set up high heat
over the whole grill.
Carne asada cooks so quickly it works best
to do it in batches.  Keep a cool zone for holding the
finished items.

This is a photo of my 1980's Weber kettle owners manual.  It has the recommended amounts of briquettes per Weber to be used on each side when cooking indirect.  It has a break down for SJ, 18", 22" and 26".   The 22" is highlighted as it was the only size I owned back then.  I think some folks use a lot more briquettes than are needed.  When cooking two zone (sear then indirect), I will use more briquettes than recommended for a better sear.

Interesting. Only a five brick difference. I'm used to using a full chimney in my 22 when grilling and using a snake when cooking at a lower temp.  I think I'll get the second chimney for when I want to do full grill heat but will probably just use one chimney most of the time.

That is 5 briquettes per side for a total of 10 more compared to a 22".  The 26" does require more fuel but not as much as you would think.

I Use the same as my 22" and it's plenty

I use one chimney plus an extra handful of unlit underneath if I'm going to be cooking a little longer.  For a quick cook one chimney is good.
