Found a pretty roached 18 for $10 over the summer.  I've had an old hibachi and a 22 OTS at my cabin in the Poconos, but figured a midget 18 would get more use than either of those.

Got called into cold smoking duty mid-build.  Useful even without legs, handles or sweeps . . .


I had saved a set of sweeps and an OTG ash pan assembly from my former Plum OTP (The bowl/lid went to FL; the cart went to STL), used a $6 HD shower curtain rod for legs and sprung for a new lid bale from e-replacements.  I had a pair of wood handles from a GGA, so those when on as well.



Legs and ash bucket tuck in for portability.

I didn't want to wheel something back and forth from the shed to the dock, so tuck-n-carry was necessary.  I wanted a shorty so it would be the right height to keep me warm sitting out on the dock at night.

Brilliant design mods, Drew. They make a lot of sense on a midget 18 IMO.

I'm always on the lookout for interesting 3-handle 18s because they're easier to carry than they are to roll. There's something about rolling an 18 that makes me nearly tip it backwards while pulling, and I'm not a tall guy. But for a one-handle bowl model, might as well turn it into a Tuck 'n Carry.

I think i like the peg legs more than my 4x4 mini. But i dont have another ash bucket. I use a 6 inch pie tin

That's what I had in mind for my 22 Lowboy project, something to transport, carry and cook, at the right height for someone sitting in a chair.

Isn't it interesting how, on rubber feet, it sets down softly and silently?

I drilled 4" down, using a stock wood handle. The bale fits nice and tight.

I cut my legs to 11 inches. That puts the rim at 21 inches high.
