Weber, Happy Cookers, Sears Economy
« on: May 17, 2013, 06:24:33 PM »
There's been a lot of Happy Cookers and Sear Economy kettles on here lately. Did Weber make any of these? My understanding it they didn't, but some say they did. Anyone know for sure? I asked Weber customer service once and they said they never made kettles and sold them with another name. Just trying to clarify.

As far as I know, happy Cooker was its own company. Its my beleif that Weber made the grills for Sears.. Slightly different, no Weber name on them anywhere.  8)

Were the wheels still stamped Weber somewhere but without the white sidewall? I've read that around the boards

Not sure on the wheels, but its my understanding that the Sears Kettles had the ring around the bowl al' la Smokey Joe.

Happy Cooker Charcoal- plastic handles, internal ash disc ashpan, smaller unmarked Vents

Sears Economy AKA Kenmore Kettle: Unmarked top vent but has date stamp. Modern 22.5" grate does not sit properly (I'm not sure why) blackwall wheels. Handles similar to "real" Weber Kettle

Maybe Weber felt that " private label " was a way to create capital , sell the raw product components to other companies and let them call it what they wish as long as it wasn't Weber . would you sell 2 -3 times what you had up until any point ? Its Sears they were a powerhouse and this type of deal went down all the time  . I'd say Sears at the time had that type of power , Wal mart , Costco type power . How many companies were making these types of kettles at that time ? One.

I just find nothing cool about these generic black kettles...not even a Weber kettle just some kettle made by someone....just not for me.  No thank you....that should not deter anyone form collecting them, I'm just saying no one will have to worry about me snatching them up. they are all yours......

I like em. I like the whole idea that someone challenged Weber. I would definitely like to find a mint red one. I think those are uber rare in mint condition.. Hey Ida, any word on that one you posted? AJ  8)

I'm hoping to pick it up Monday .

I can't wait to see one in person and then compare it to a weber .

Yeah, not sure thats a Happy Cooker, cause the handles are not what I have seen on a HK.
Its still RED and still cool. Would make a great daily cooker.   8)
