Sous Vide Steak
« on: January 06, 2018, 12:01:43 PM »
Got a sous vide for Christmas and wanted to give steak a try. I dont like fatty cuts and didnt want to spend too much money in case I screw it up, so I went with sirloins.

Have the cooker set to 135 (shooting for medium) and plan to cook for 2 hours followed by a brief sear on the stove bc it is too damn cold outside!

Got a couple seasoned and ready to go

In the pot for 2 hours

Steak looks great!  Sous vide is a great tool to have in the armory.

@Meathook get off the fence!

Thanks for the nudge @bubblehead, how about a vacuum sealer recommendation.  Anybody have an idea of which sealer works the best vs which to stay away from?

Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

It really makes cooking steak dummy proof. I struggle cooking steak consistently on the grill, this will be my new go to.

Now to find some new cuts to try....

I have this one - doesnt have any bells or whistles, but it works for me. If/when this one bites the dust I will step up to a more expensive model, but i didnt want to spend too much bc I didnt know how much i would use it.

I have the Anova wifi/bluetooth model. Happy with it so far, except I have to delete the app and reinstall it every time I use it which is annoying.

As do we!!!  This thing is a work horse!!!  Commercial quality and doesn't care what style bags.  We bought bulk rolls in several sizes and works out fine!!  I tend to buy pork butts in bulk from Sams and Costco.  I prep them and vac em shut and put in the freezer.

Love mine!!

YMMV...
Lets just say I have acquired a few Kettles.  Big and small.   Vintage and New...  Some say I have a problem.  I find the Kettle, buy the Kettle, USE the Kettle...No problem...
