This is my first Thanksgiving cooking on the grill. It is beautiful sunny blue sky day but cold in the 40s. It was a bit of a chore to get the turkey on the spit....only 16.5 lbs.....and I had to use the counter weight. Did a test run before I started the coals. Now...it is spinning away and I will take some progress pics as it cooks. Filled it with an orange, apple, garlic and some rosemary.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates.

Larry

Looking forward to seeing your setup and the progress pics. I love using my Roti and how everything turns out. I'm sure your turkey will be delicious. Happy Thanksgiving to you also!

It's always better when you're cooking on a Weber!

Nice setup! What'd you stuff the bird with?

Are you going to put lid on or just like that no lid?

Turkey is looking really good and smells awesome.....which brings up a good point. All that aroma is outside and not in my kitchen.  Definitely miss that guests walking in the door do not smell dinner in progress. That is a big part of TG festivities......the aroma of turkey wafting from the oven.

Baked my special apple pie yesterday and it will be a well appreciated this year. No pumpkin pie this time around since we have a small group and one pie is enough.

clarissa

It is pretty much done now.....should I just wrap it in foil and let it rest while my sides are heating up?

SmokeVide

You nailed that turkey! Congrats!

Regarding the counterweight: When I bought my rotisserie, it didn't come with one. I contacted Weber, and they said counterweights aren't included anymore because they're not necessary. I still sometimes add a clamp or vise grip on the spit rod to serve as a counterweight.

My counterweight and the ring screw that secures it fell off today, mid-cook. Didn't matter.

Looks grate!
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Awesome job on the turkey and pie!  Both look great!  I'm looking forward to spinning a turkey in the future.
