Wood Dale in MN
« on: May 07, 2013, 06:38:55 PM »
First, My thanks to Aman(ChadA) in the help of this Rescue. Well if you looked earlier I asked for help in the trading post. . We know how CL works... I sent a message and also sent Aman. I asked for a picture of the top vent. Reply was for tonight. Aman in made an appointment. He can fill in the rest of the story, Unfortunately we will never know the history of this kettle... I have not seen it first hand, but he has and said it a museum piece.(Will be in the stable) Any info from WKS in helping restore will be greatly appreciated. Here are the pic's from Chad, I will see in the a.m. He is even going to deliver it to me. WOW!

Chad Recycles, that is good.

Small scare around handle.

Red Wheels?

Tab missing on vent lid.

Sweet!

(I never thought I'd say that when talking about an old grill)
I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

Tab missing on vent lid.

From the looks of the strange markings on the vent it looks like they were using a screw driver of something similar to open and close the top vent... bummer :(

My tab is missing too.  So just to be straight, you or an agent of yours got this grill and you will be taking possession this week?

The person selling it had been cooking on it, it was filled with fresh ash I had to empty before loading into the car. The seller was sort of in a hurry so I didn't ask about the history of the kettle. Once restored though, I'd keep it as a looker. But then again, it was still being used after all these years.

It's in my possession now, it will be in Greg's possession tomorrow morning. With a tab issue like this, what's the work around for using the vent? Clearly a sharp screw driver is NOT the work around  ::)

I use grandpa every once in a while, I just leave the tab open all the time, If I'm gonna do a cook where noodling with the vents might be a necessity I'll just cook on something else...If you really need to move it, just make sure it is turning freely and you can scootch it a little with a tong or other not so sharp tool...

It's probably just froze due to the gunk under it.  Fire up a different kettle and get it hot then stick this lid over the coals to soften/melt the gunk.  I bet it turns fairly easily once it's warm.

Just spray the shit out of it with WD 40 and then keep a running hose on it as you spin it around and around, you can keep washing the gunk out it works pretty well..

I'm a rookies to three wheeler's,  but with a little experience now, they do not get as hot as the OT systems, IMO.
