Forum Category Confusion
« on: July 20, 2017, 12:44:02 PM »
There's a lot of overlap between "Grilling & BBQ Forum" and "Cooks, Pics & Recipes"

They were initially separated so the "Grilling & BBQ" would be a discussion zone where members can talk about cooking/grilling/bbq and the Cooks/Pics & Recipes would be more of a "share your cook" or "share a recipe"

However this interface is clearly not intuitive and requires constant moderation efforts to put content where it belongs.

I am planning on combining these two forum sections back into a single forum.

I am open to discussing ideas or concerns related to forum categorization and tagging.

Hmm.. maybe change Grilling & BBQ to Grilling & BBQ Techniques and Tips? Something along the lines of that?

I like the idea of a split between the two categories.  Would a different naming convention maybe help? Something like:
-BBQ/Grilling Technique
-Share your Cook/Recipe

On a separate note, I'm happy to help with a tagging project @Troy.

I'm open to name changes as well. We've had a few different names on those forums, maybe we just haven't hit the right names yet.

I'm still unclear on the distinction between the 2. I usually play it safe and use the cooks category. At least I think I'm playing it safe. Maybe my posts should be in grilling BBQ [emoji848]

lol
perfect

Maybe there is really no need for a separate section for one to share their cooks vs a separate section for discussing technique

Here's what I've come up with.

under the "GRILL TALK" section:
- Introduce Yourself
- Collecting & Collectables
- Charcoal Grills & Accessories
- WSM
- Gas Grills & Electric Kettles

under the "FOOD TALK" section:
- Charcoal Grilling & BBQ
- Pizza
- Monthly Challenge

the rest stays as is, but I think product reviews is a flop and it can go away

I would just try some changes beneath "Food Talk." "Grill Talk" mostly works ok.

ahh the notes column didn't copy out

the intention behind the new collecting forum would be more of a 'hall of fame' area.
However, I want to wait until the tagging feature is enabled - as that may solve some of the issues as well.

Actually, that category could be simply "barbecue quackery" [emoji56][emoji16]

The Cooks, Pics & Recipes section has been combined with the BBQ & Grilling section

The tagging solution has a few critical flaws that prevent us from using it, so we're looking into other options (for mods, restoration, other specific sub-topics)
