This grill is far from rough.
The burners look great, the lid is perfect, all the hardware is good and most of all is there. But the paint was pitting on the sides of the lid and a little was worn through on the front of the cookbox. So I disassembled everything and sanded everything smooth. Backsides are masked off and ready for paint.
The cookbox is not as bare but it is smooth and all grease removed. Tomorrow I will begin repainting. The frame is going to get a polishing but that's all. I'm also going to make all new wood for it.

Can't wait to see the finished Genny Jr, Karl! I couldn't believe it when I saw the listing for that price.... glad you were able to get it!

We spoke briefly about the grill grate at the meet-up... when you get it all prettied up, take a picture of that grate. I want to see if it's the same as the one my chocolate GJ came with. @Scott Zee  , what kind of grate did your GJ come with?  Post a pic when you get a chance.

@Bob BQ.    I was lucky enough to get the original porcelain steel grate as well as 2 SS replacement grates. Here's a pic of the 2 SS grates. The original porcelain grate is in great condition and currently on my Jr. I'll get a pic when the weather clears up.

So does just one of these grates fit the GJ?  I believe @Kneab's grill has this same SS grate, and mine came with the same. I wound up getting a Silver B/C CI grate set and chopping one down to fit. When I got my GJ, I just figured the grate it came with was a universal grate, or home made.... just doesn't have the look or heft of a typical Weber grate.

My grate looks just like the ones in the photo.

@Bob BQ, Here's a pic of the porcelain grates. 2 individual pieces. The SS grates are full size and heavy duty.

Stopped in at the Weber parts to see what was on clearance this week. Stumbled upon a set of SS flavorizer bars for a Genesis 1000-5000.

I was about to order a set off ebay but, for $19.22 I will cut these.

Just needed a quick trim in the bandsaw.

Perfect fit.

Now it is almost complete.
All new wood on the shelves original lid handle restored.

Thanks Bob.
This has become my outdoor oven. I made 1.5lbs of bacon on a cookie sheet followed by some giant banana walnut muffins. Turned out great. Who wants to heat the house up when it's 94°
