First time grilling pizza
« on: June 01, 2017, 06:30:23 PM »
I got the Weber pizza insert for my master touch as a present this past Christmas and tonight I finally got to use it. Being that this was my first time grilling pizza, I expected a complete failure but it turned out decent to be honest. Unfortunately I underestimated how difficult it is to transfer into the grill so I had a couple mishaps and also, I couldn't get my temps up as high as I wanted but that was just due to an inssuficient amount of charcoal.

I'm looking forward to next time and improving on my mistakes.

Yeah I agree that pepperoni looks awesome. Looking to the last picture, I think I know why you couldn't get the temps up......................you need to put the charcoal INSIDE the kettle...........just kidding!
Nice grill, I love my mastertouch

Only razzing ya. Try leaving the lid cracked while cooking. That will help with temps.

Adding some wood chunks would kick up the heat as well.    Off topic, what is that cart holding the Kingsford bins ?

I just got that actually. It's a serving cart from ikea that only costs $99. I also picked up some s hooks to hang my tools from off the railings. Here's a link to my previous post about it with some better pictures.

@shamlax79 -  If you put your lid on slightly off center the grill will be able to breath more and it will allow your coals to get hotter.  A wood chunk or two will give you some extra flavor, but without a pizza attachment like a Kettle Pizza or Pizza Que that lets the coals really breath, I don't think adding a bunch of wood chunks will give you more heat.  In fact I've noticed that too much smoke when trying to achieve high heat is counter productive because the smoke actually chokes out the coals to some extent.

Sham we made the pizzas on parchment paper with a little corn meal under the dough. Used a pizza peel to get them to the BBQ. Once the pizza dough starts to cook a bit you can pull the paper out very easily.
