I've only cooked a few times on my Performer. Quick question: any tips on how to clean the top vent?   As you know it gets messy from the smoke.

Use this...

Works great.  Also using 0000 steel wool works.

You can make it look like this...

OKP Crimson, 22" H Code Brownie, SJS Lime, 22" CB Stacker, Red Q2200, Performer Deluxe CB slate blue

The other option is just not to worry about it.

I don't clean them but I did use white wall cleaner one time and it cleans them right up. Wiped off with a cloth no scrubbing.

I am more of a shabby sheek kinda guy with the top vent I wouldn't want to clean any of that off
Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Lol Darko.

I don't bother with cleaning it. I grill 3-5 times a week. There's no point in trying

Mainly I meant the black/brown gunk under the vent.

When I'm doing a restore I have found dental floss and Greased Lightning are a good way to clean out the gunk between the top vent and the dome.
I've got Webers. 10 - WSMs, 5 - 22.5" kettles, 2 - 18.5" kettle, 2 - SJS, 2 - SJP, 4 - WGA, 1 vintage Coolie Pan

My daily driver, have no plans in cleaning it. I do wipe the lid dust off time to time.
