Wish my grill had a lid holder.  That little hook hanger inside is hard to use, especially when the lid is hot. I see that Weber discontinued the slide aside holder several years ago. I have dropped my lid (slid off a nearby table) and there is a small ding along the edge, but it is still round and fits fine.

Has anyone else dropped their lid or is it just me?  Now I will be more careful and probably set it on the ground to avoid any more possible accidents.

@clarissa - This is a pretty good price on the Slide Aside lid holder.

I thought they were discontinued and noticed them on Weber's web site. I called and bought one directly from them for the same price two weeks ago plus their $7 flat rate shipping charge.

Seriously, do that many people have problems with using the hook ?

I like the lid hook. I think the lid is much more out of the way using the hook and you get more air flow when doing topless grilling.

I'm good with the hook. Slide aside looks like it would work well too but I'm not a fan of clip on accessories. I have a tendency to knock them off.

IMO, the hook pretty much sucks. It is passable, but given the fact that Weber developed the Slide a side... pretty much tells you that the hook kinda sucks.

I don't have a problem with the hook at all, but I do have some lids without hooks on bowls with no bales.  ;)

I like the hook, but only on kettles without a rear handle because I prefer to hang the lid off the back of the kettle. I would rather have a kettle with a hook than one with a lid bale that didn't have lid with a hook. I think a bale and a lid with a hook is the best of both worlds. Easy to flip lid back to check the cook, or hang the lid on the bale to get it totally out of the way. Don't care for the rear handles or the new larger lid bale.

I should probably order a couple of Slide Asides.
I have been wanting to install lid bails on my 22 and 18 OTGs, but can't bring myself to remove the rear handles.

I'm collecting supplies to make a table for both of my black 22's and the slide-asides will work perfectly.
