MORE HAM!
« on: April 14, 2013, 05:09:16 PM »
It was nice here today, so we decided to fire up the grills.  There is always a crowd on Sundays, and we had a leftover ham from Easter.  So we decided to to some crash potatoes on the cast iron and asparagus is in season.  They my mother in law had gone somewhere and had something called scalloped pineapple.  It was some sort of pineapple dish and it was delicious.  I decided to do the asparagus on the Roti in a basket I bought for three bucks.....  The ham was just the usual spiral cut ham So I just put it in a pan and foiled it and put it on #2 Mesa Azul to heat up for a couple hours;

Then some cheesy potatoes and the pineapple thing went on the 26, we made more potatoes in case the crash potatoes were a bust...here they are after they had been cooking a little while....

I decided to put the cast iron plate on Grandpa just to let the heat circulate all around the flat plate and the spuds went on...

I couldn't find my usual basket for the asparagus, so I just pulled an audible and tossed it in this basket I got on clearance and had never used before today....

After 20 min or so the crash were golden brown and ready to come off....

the asparagus were done and beautiful...

Here is the spread....

Here is the final product...

Under different light

Thanks everyone....

That was a great cook! Your large cooks remind me of the ones on the front of the old catalogs.

I think Grandpa might be my favorite grill of all the ones I've ever seen, that things got more character than a Home Depot Warehouse full of new Webers. If you're ever travelling through East Texas let me know, I want to buy you a beer just for saving that old guy and making him useful again.

We boiled the potatoes, so they had a head start, then I got the cast iron hot and put on a little EVOO.  Once that got hot I placed the potatoes on the cast iron and lightly smashed them with a potato masher until they were crushed.  Then salt and pepper and brushed some EVOO with some crushed garlic in it directly on the potatoes.  Then they cooked for 15 min.  I flipped them over just so they cooked evenly.  Once brown I pulled them off and they were ready to go....

Here they are once flipped and just about done...

Looks good! I have a ham that I took out of the freezer that I need to do soon. I've also got a couple ducks to do. I better start cookin'!

Those spuds look interesting. Are they baked, smashed and then grilled on CI? Or is there more to it than that? (N'mind - I see the explanation in the previous post.)
