Best bang for your buck by far. I love mine as well. I have many cookers that I use often but I find my mini WSM my go to for short smokes like wings and sausages. I call it my little party smoker! I can throw it in my trunk and take it wherever the party is haha. Not to mention you can still grill some mean chops or steaks by removing the pot. You really cant find a more versatile smoker especially for under $100.

Nice, what did you use for paint?
I've got all the parts for mine down in the basement, just haven't gotten around to cutting and painting...

@WNC  I used VHT engine primer and paint on mine and it has held up really well.  Still glossy black has not turned color at all.  I did bake my pot in the oven for the cure which I think really helped.

Mine is now 5 years old.

I'd LOVE to make a mini-WSM, however, you can't find those vasconia steamer pots anywhere anymore :(

Not a Vasconia but the next best thing: Only $21.47 with free ship to the store.  I picked mine up yesterday.

That's the same one I bought.  My lid sticks a little but not too bad after a little crimping.

I agree.  A great project and it works very well.  I have done 14 and 18 inch conversions:

What pot did you use for that SJP 18" Winz? I wasn't sure what would fit it. I made the 14" mini last year and I use that all the time. It's amazing how much you can get in it, yet a 5 hour cook uses about half the coals my performer uses to grill a couple of steaks.

I took a trip up north this weekend and brought my mini WSM, it is an awesome little smoker and can do quite a bit of food.
I loaded 3 racks of saint louis style spares in that thing and the ribs came out awesome.  very happy with mine.

Great conversion projects and having it just the way you want.

When I pushed for the 14 to be reintroduced in 2006, it was shot down.  I told them to sell them at the big box stores making it a "gateway" smoker and they'll buy the 18 or 22... Nope.  I said they'd sell them to campers and sportsman.. nope..

A few years later the finally released it.
