Making wood chips using wood chipper?

 Has anyone used a wood chipper to make cooking wood chips?  I have an older 1987 Mighty Mac 12PT chipper/shredder with a hammer mill. It's rated for 3.5" branches and has a  Briggs 7hp horizontal shaft engine with centrifugal clutch. I'd like to designate this as a BBQ wood chipper.
 I only have the stock 1" round hole screen and the wood chips come out to small. I'd like to get them a tad larger than the pre packaged stuff.
 Today I removed the 1" screen and did a test run using apple wood hearts. No bark at all and split them down to 2"x2" long sections.
 The wood chips came out larger without the screen but are too thin. Guess I need to adjust the chipper blade clearance. I may have it set too close and the reason for my wood shaving verses the wood chip size I'm trying to get.

 Has anyone ran into this issue with size of wood chips?

Can't see the iPhone pics for whatever computerized reason, but you can use all the way down to very fine dust like with the Amazin' smoke tube or maze......

For chips, I suppose it depends on what you'd like to do....a for instance situation here would be a small amount of small chips for meatloaf or fish that takes it up quickly.....larger, longer burn items, larger chip or even keep it in chunk form to get a longer, better burn....
