Simpsons Yellow 22
« on: November 14, 2016, 12:54:57 PM »

I've got an agreement to pick this up Saturday.  Does anyone know if there's a way to bring back the blue in the faded handles?

They are probably toast. What you could do is get some wood ones and paint them blue. A few coats of spar would kick them in.

You could try something like armor all. It may bring back some of the blue.

Auto parts stores have something called wipe new or something like that.

Will these Simpson kettles change color?

I don't think there's anything you can do. Maybe find some donors...

Just a shot in the dark, but try this...on the underside of one of them (remove from grill first)...200 grit sandpaper...just may take the top layer of discoloration off and reveal something good.
I had an old set of plastic wheels that looked like that and the sandpaper worked..did 200 then 400, then fine steel wool and the color came back and shined...kind of a crusty top layer i guess

Thanks guys.  I saw someone used Vaseline on some old radio knobs.

I'm not familiar with the handles. Do they have logos on them? If not, I know in Phoenix we have a store that will mix custom colors and load it in a spray can for you.

So I took a look at some pictures. If you can get the paint color (I mean, as long as it's gonna be primarily a looker and not left outside), it's as easy as using a sharpie for the logo's. I tried a paint pen on this vise first, but a sharpie ended up being much cleaner and looked much nicer.
