Monday night I was checking local selling sites(No CUBS game to keep me busy). CL, OfferUp and LetGo. I have Weber as a key word in all of them...and didn't see anything special. So I check "grill"...and find an ad on LetGo that says "Brown portable grill". In the ad it says vintage Webber, never been used...It had a vent pic and a lid pic...looked like a Coppermist but really hard to tell. I did know at that point it was a Pat# lid and the vent was CLEAN. Send the seller a lowball offer and he come's back with a number that I thought was fair if it was in nice shape. We set up a meet for this morning...Indeed it is a Coppermist...possibly used maybe once as the coal grate is rusty and the original cooking grate has slight rust in a couple spots, nothing that won't come right off. Interior is virtually spotless. The seller said he found it in a basement of a widow who put the grill in there after her husband passed away some 40 years ago. It's raining here right now so the following pics were taken in my garage...
Vent pic
Handle in perfect condition
Couple pics with flash on...
No flash...love the high dark fade
And this is what put it over the top for me...it sat under this BEAUTIFUL cover all these years
No mention of the cover in the ad and when he came driving up with the grill in the bed of his pickup truck I almost $hit my pants
My emotions are flying high right now as this was the color kettle my father had when I was a child. I vividly recall him cooking
hotdogs and burgers on it for the family. The only thing that could possibly make today any better would be a Cubs win tonight.
I know my dad is looking down today with a HUGE smile and a spatula waiting to flip those burgers....
