I'm still alive lol.

I used Kingsford Competition and from what I understand that is decently hot? I'm sure they're not as hot as lump but I think I read a review about them getting over 1000F.

The steak turned out well (read good, not well-done) except I over seasoned it. Not a great sear but it was something.

Glad it turned out well. I was more concerned with excess ash and a chemical taste from the binder in the briquettes. Glad that wasn't an issue for you.
