That's no Turtle...it's a Desert Tortoise, and they're a protected species up here in the High Desert.
My wife has built a special yard enlosure for them, including hibernation burrows.
I've got some great pictures of her Tortoises, but I don't know how to post 'em. She has raised 2 of them from eggs.
Turtles are acquatic reptiles, living in ponds, lakes, and rivers. They have webbed feet to aid in swimming.
Tortoises are land-based reptiles, and are built for burrowing. They will drown if placed in water over their heads.
The life span of a Turtle is around 40 years.
The life span of a Tortoise is around 150 years.
Now run off and bring me a beer.
