Raining on a HOT red weber

Check out the color changing where each rain drop hits. The water cools the surface for a split second, but vaporizes instantly.

It was about 1200F inside the kettle

Every time I fire up my red head and put the lid on, I smile when it changes colors from red to crimson.  I'm easily amused.  Cool video.

That's pretty awesome! I made pizza for the first time this week. Never saw my Crimson performer change color before. The needle was way past 600 and the color change was awesome. Yellow is still my favorite color change.

I was attempting to burn the seasoning off some old cast iron grates, while also experimenting with book/paper petrification.

I used coshell, lump, and a leaf blower.
It was really dumb. It ruined the cast iron, fused the top vent to the lid, and ruined the one touch system.

Ha!  That leaf blower would definitely give the required oxygen to get it up that high...I've thought about doing that in the past...thanks for the warning.

To be honest, it was actually scary for a while. The when the kettle gets that hot, it makes funny sounds. Creaks and crackles and high pitched whines.

I did that video years ago, and I would never attempt it again.

It was crying and screaming in pain. Were you able to repair the damage from the heat?

Yes. Still use that kettle as my cajun bandit smoker.  It was my dad's kettle when I was a little one.

Did the cast iron crack or how was it ruined?

It became very brittle.
The surface would easily chip away while trying to get the surface rust off.

I was sad
