When asked to do a cooking class for my local library and their adult education program I was thrilled for the opportunity.

As the folks arrived one gentleman approached me and said " my wife sent me down here , because I burn everything and she's sick of it " after a quick chuckle I assured him we could fix that issue .

After discussing the basic operation of both gas and charcoal grills ,set up and use we set about making a rub and  cooking up some chicken wings

Had them glove up and make a basic chicken rub then we got the wings on the grill . We had both charcoal and gas grill owners so we showed technics for both grills

After learning about indirect cooking the gentleman that burned everything was blown away at how well the wings looked and cooked , he'd been cooking over direct high heat , opening and closing the lid to keep things constantly turned so they wouldn't burn and he said he killed everything . We let him man the gasser and he couldn't wait to get home and put what he learned to use .

Others interested in learning about charcoal cooking manned the performer

Learning about temping meat and a proper rest

Reaping the rewards of all their hard work !

I need to look into this! It would be a blast to teach a class and end up with dinner! There's a place close by where I've taken courses on growing mushrooms and identifying edible plants and such. This would fit right in.

Great job professor! What a wonderful way to teach others about grilling and who knows you may sparked some passion and imagination in some of your students to experiment more.
