Lenton portobello mushroom burgers
« on: March 23, 2013, 05:33:58 PM »
During lent (wich for Orthodox Christians started this past monday)  we (healthy adults) don't eat meat. So I have to get creative with my grilling.

I came up with this recipe that I love and you can use for that akward vegetarian who comes to you next grill party.

1 large portobello mushroom
Italian dressing
Cajun seasoning
6 green onions
1 Hamburger bun

Soak mushroom and green onions in itailan dressing and add cajun seasoning for desired heat. Let sit for an hour in marinade.

Place mushroom and onions on hot grill cook till hot.

Grill bun.

Serve mushroom and onions like a hamburger. Simple amd tastey.

Note hot dogs for the kids :)

If a vegeterian invites you to his house for dinner, will he make you a steak?  ???  ???

Those look pretty good,  jacoblee !!!

Cooked on a Brownie to match the mushrooms !!!!

I've fixed 'em somewhat like that.....only diff. is I'll chop up the stems real small & mix with shreadded cheese for the filling.......don't know if cheese might qualify as a 'meat', but they're good that way too!!!

Kinda turns it into a cheeseburger style thing........

I end up doing some vegetarian / vegan stuff 'cause they'll be a few folks attending gatherings
who are of that ilk..........I put up some various recipes for stuff to add into the normal BBQ mix in the "Other Recipes" section............check in , if you  like..... ;D

Those look good!

The 'schedule' must be different for Roman Catholics since I've been doing meatless Fridays for SWMBO for several weeks now. Did fish for a couple Fridays and then did pizza. Didn't make anything Friday since she ran 8 miles after work and gets home to late too eat. But I think grilled Portobellos could be in our future. :D

That's cool.....I've done them w/ very fine julienne sliced sweet onion & sweet bell pepper (orange, red, yellow )
those still make my mouth water, as is !!!!
