Kettle Pizza clone

Looks great. I did the same thing. I had a donor kettle so I was able to add screws to put my stone at a level height to the lip. I left the bottom lip on the lid. I don’t have any pics of pizzas yet but it cooks great.

Where did you get that stone that’s cut out in the back? I want the KP, but might just make more sense to buy a donor kettle from Facebook or Craigslist!

That's the way to go Darin. Nice!

I cut up an 18, left the lip on. Pics on the site here somewhere.

I have the KP, the PQ - gas and charcoal  - but I think my cut up 18 is my favorite.

The stone I bought on amazon a few years ago. It’s no longer available on Amazon but it’s a red sky grilling stone.

Varekai, you just saved me 75$. I was going to get one of those pizzacraft kits to convert my 18' Weber into a pizza oven but after seeing this? yeah keeping my money and going to cut the lid out. I think I have a cutting tool and even if not, buying one would still be worth it ( cuz, of course, I'll find  other things to uhm mod )
Did you use anything to keep the cut edges from rusting and what is the best paint to use to prevent that because that's the only downside I can see to this.
I live in NOrthern climes and this thing will stay out on the back deck, covered, but still.
shoot just saw the rest of the thread, Rustoleum it is.

Here is my version of a pizza cooker. After reading A LOT about wood fire permanent brick ovens and the kettle pizza then how people were adding bricks and stuff to the inside of the lids to "keep the heat low", so i  came to the decision that my idea might work. So I took a donor lid and started with a cutting wheel on my grinder. It went really well. Came out pretty clean looking I think. An anticipated plus is that once I get my stone warmed up and the kettle heated up with a small pile of coals behind the stone, I can just spin the lid around to the "back" and I can add pieces of oak to raise the temp and get a pseudo wood fire going then spin the lid to the front to add the pizza. No lifting the lid and losing the heat like used to happen with my tilted lid cooks. Next time I do this I will leave the bottom lip on the lid through the opening....click link below to see my build album

I wonder why Weber has not done something like your hack for their customers who love making pizza?
