I was lucky enough to grab this gas kettle this week.  Probably only because i was the closest one who could pick it up, is my guess.

She was in pretty good kit when i got her but she def needed a good cleaning.  4 sos pads, a half bottle of simple green bbq cleaner, and a couple hours.

the drip pan cleaned up nice.

i put a GBS on it, to use the cast iron griddle and wok with it.

great for heating up leftovers.

i used wood from an old bunk bed to make a landing pad for it.  we don't want the base sitting on the ground, no no.

so with the rest of the bunk bed bits, i made a side table and cleared it with spar over the paint so i can keep it outside.

anyway thanks for checking out the vintage gasser!   ;D
I only use kettles with lid bales.

Great job Greg.  I like the landing pad you made.  Don't need any dirt getting on the pedestal or base since it looks so nice now.
Looking forward to seeing some cooks on this one!

Am I just not seeing them in the pic, or are there are no vents on the lid at all?

Or do those tabs I see in your cleaning pic keep it from sealing up and allow the air to flow?

I've always liked these kettle gassers.  I'd love to find one, but I'm sure thats just about impossible in my local area.

I'd say I hate you because you have that, but I have a green MBH kettle, so I'm not allowed    ;D

Did it get warm enough with the rocks? You could probably get it hotter without that grate. Try a wok - you'll love it.

The early ones like this used the standoff's in the lid. Later ones used louvers in the lid for venting.

Dude, relax your chicken.

Damn! That cleaned up nicely! Nice job on that. I love that early shade of dark green.

Looks fantastic in its native, green environment.  The propane tank needs a ghillie suit though.

I forget, how and where do you find the date code on the gas kettles? I know since this is a dark green MBH it's still 78,79 or 80 but where do you find that code on these?

Since before now I hadn't seen the underside of a gas kettle lid that also answers my questions as to why the 70s gas kettles had no louver slots but the 80s ones did. I'm really fascinated by this one.

@GregS   What a fabulous pickup. It's in exceptional condition and that green, WOW. great clean up and the base and table, fantastic.

GregS

thanks everyone!  we love it.

here's a pic i snapped of that standoff before the clean up.  i figured these may be of some interest as it was the only gasser i've seen with no lid louvers.  @Craig

the lid is the same size but the rim is wider from the bowl and longer going down towards the ground.  i can take measurements against a 22 mt for comparison is anyone wants.  actually, lemme grab a pic.

what's nice is that since there is always a gap going around the edge between the lid and bowl, tool hangers or the wire shelf that clip on the side of the bowl don't interfere with lid closure.  tool hangers are handy as heck.

I only use kettles with lid bales.

here i magically balanced the green lid on it's handle while levitating the smoke MT lid over it using only the power of white socks and sandles.

it's wider all the way around by more than a 1/2 inch.

That's some mystical powers.

@GregS don't forget they're portable too...

Dude, relax your chicken.
