Picked up this 900 Yesterday
« on: April 27, 2016, 07:24:40 AM »
I made a list of parts needed but one I cant find anything on is the rail under the box that hold the bottom tray.  They will have to be replaced.
Cant even find them listed in manual.  Are these available anywhere or will I need to fabricate them?  This is my first restore.  Don't want to wear out my welcome.  I'm excited about this project.  Any advise is greatly appreciated!

Yes, the 'Bottom Tray Rails' are available.

Since you have a serial number you should call Weber with your list of parts. They have the best prices and will have everything.

Go to this page on the Weber website and punch in your serial number. http://help.weber.com/schematics/#serial-number

I don't see the rails on the diagram but that doesn't mean Weber doesn't have them, http://help.weber.com/schematics/browse.aspx?model=591101

Might be the 98057, http://www.ereplacementparts.com/bottom-tray-rails-with-hardware-p-1476701.html

Thanks for the responses!  I dug into grill last night and made a list of needed parts.  Called Weber customer Service today.  They were AWESOME!!!!
Prices were good.  Think I got everything I need to tear apart and put her back together.  However, never works out that way.  Can't complete a job without several trips to the hardware.  Hope to really dig in next week.  The wife is traveling for work and I can occupy the garage.

Awesome. Let me know if you hit any snags. If yours is like mine or the 1000 I recently got, the angle grinder or Dremel do come in handy for cutting off a few rusty bolts.

Thanks.  I did get some new Dremel cutting wheels and tools today in anticipation of those rusty bolts.  After a closer look at them last night it was clear there was no way they are coming out with out cutting.

One question I do have is there a trick to removing the thermometer.  Quickly looked at it last night and couldn't tell.

Just gently tap it from inside the hood.
It's just pushed into the hole.
It was made that way so you could take it out and use it in your meat as well.

Thanks Gpinch1 and addicted-to-smokes for all the help. Today I took everything off the frame, and cook box. Parts all ordered. Now time for the fun of cleaning, paint prep, and painting.

I do have another stupid question. The weber plate on the hood is really faded. I want to take it off to paint and refinish. What's the trick removing from lid?  Thanks

Also, noticed  some irony today. I'm Big Dave and I'm working on a 900 LP. There is also Bigdave who is currently working on a Genesis 1.

Saw that too. Was confused!

I think the name plate unbolts. It's replaceable, but there's no reason to do so. Clean, paint and then rub it on flat sandpaper to remove the paint from the letters.

Some name plates have those crappy push washer things. Make sure you can find a replacement before you pull/break them off.

Yeah I think they're called push nuts. Lowe's might have them.

Push nuts, star nuts, lotta nuts on these things.

^^^^^  This.   Clean it real well.  Mask if off with painters tape then spray the entire logo.   Once it dries, take a piece of fine grit sandpaper, put it on a block and slowly and carefully run it back and forth taking off the layer of paint on the raised areas of the logo.   Make sure that the block stays flat so that you don't round of an edge of the logo.

Thanks everyone!!!  It does have the push on nuts.  I'd thought about masking off painting then lightly sanding with a block.  Believe I'll try that before replacing the
push on nuts.

Did some fire box wire cup and sanding tonight. Hope to get the box, lid, and frame paint ready this week. Have a paint question.  Looking at picks, I see different paint finishes. Some are all gloss, some all flat, and others have a gloss frame and a flat box.   What would it have been born with?  I kinda like gloss frame and flat box.
