Lid hinge, and Lid gasket Add-ons
« on: January 09, 2016, 08:37:25 AM »
I recently bought and attached a nifty stainless steel hinge along with a hi-temp felt gasket (both purchased from unknownbbq.com) and, now that I've done several cooks with them I have to give them both a hearty thumbs up. The hinge is sturdy, well designed and has a cool notch that easily nests it in place at a 45 degree angle then easily undoes itself to lower back closed. The lid gasket absolutely seals the lid. No more messing with office clips to clamp the lid for low and slow smokes. NO smoke coming out at the lid edge. I gave it a look here and haven't seen any conversation about either product. Highly recommended. Oh, and the lid hinge has a quick release pin if you need to completely remove the lid. Example: using the rotisserie attachment.

I've got the hinges on my two 22.5 WSMs.  They are a great addition.  I'm, hopefully, getting a cart built for my 26.  When that's complete, I'll be adding a hinge there, too.

Do the weber covers still fit with the hinge added on?

I finally got up to our mt. house where my Weber lives and got a couple of requested shots of my new hinge, and lid gasket. They both work great.

Greetings,

I can't seem to properly load photo files to my note. Can someone enlighten me as to how to do it? Thanks

Dave

I'm glad you posted this I was wondering about a hinge. I read something that said on a charcoal grill when you check what you're cooking you should lift straight up. I thought putting a hinge on the grill would make that impossible.

No, if you lift straight up you risk ash getting sucked up and swirled around.

^^^^What he said!  Definitely lift the lid as if it were hinged to prevent a vacuum from pulling ash from the bottom onto your food!

As far as the cover, it fit for a while.  Then it got hard and stiff and was pretty useless.
