They are just harder to find. I'm really not even sure what causes a kettle that always has a fade. It think the ones that fade when hot are due to minerals or elements in the paints that weber used. I believe there was something in the red paint that is either really expensive, hard to find, or illegal now which is why there haven't been red kettles for a while. I might be totally wrong about the lack of recent kettles in red, but I think I read it somewhere on here and if I am remembering correctly it was
