18" Brownie: Dog Turd or Decent Treasure?
« on: December 23, 2015, 03:53:37 PM »
I picked this 18" (K code) up some time back.
When I arrived at the seller's apartment, it had been a steady downpour for over an hour already, with no signs of letting up. There was no shelter for inspecting it, but I did notice the wheels were chewed up. Gave her $25, instead of the $30 she wanted.
Loaded everything quickly & got the he!! outta the rain. Arrived home, unloaded, & inspected it. 1 of 3 handles were salvageable. The OT sweep was in good shape. The grates were in ok shape. Ash pan missing. However, I figured out why the wheels were chewed up. This thing was in a fight with a chained up, large dog at some point in it's life. .  Lots of porcelain damage to the bowl, courtesy of a metal chain being dragged across it. Was solid though, with no dents.

Wasn't sure how much I wanted to put into it. Let it sit a few weeks, then decided to fix it up. I figured, being brown, it hides porcelain damage pretty well. Had a fair set of wheels & a set of custom handles laying around. . Cleaned up & photographed from its good side, I think it was worth it. I like the way that the chubby handles look on an 18".
Chubby handles & side table really make it look tiny.

Great work. I can't believe the before and after shots. It's amazing how a sad grill can be turned into something you will probably get tons of compliments on.  Awesome rescue.

Decent Treasure? No! Gem yes! Very nice. I had a 18" brown and let her go. I'll pickup another one some day. Very nice restore.
Wife said "No more GRILLS in this house!" So I bought a 2nd house!

I'd say treasure that little grill, and let it live out the rest of its life in sweet cooking glory! Great job on the restore, it might look little next to that table, but it sure looks sharp also!

Thanks. Don't regret it, it was hard to know how it would clean up. I didn't mind keeping another project.
