It was actually those two exact pictures of yours that inspired me to make a ring. This ring is actually intended for keeping the coals off the side of the 'cado, but I figured what the heck I'll try it out in this application.

When I had to added the coals to the snake, it did pretty much go up to grate height, so if I make another one I build it for the snake. Good tip about the outer ring too, I always wondered what that part was for in your pictures.
