Picked this up recently.  I hear they are pretty rare.  Cleaned the rust off and its ready. Nice vintage shape.

Lawrence and Clark,  I plan to smoke on this.  How is fire management and temp compared to an 18.5"?  Also, there is a slight gap (in the top left corner) where the door meets the middle chamber.  Should I leave it like it is or try to slightly bend it.  Its a pretty heavy door.

Sweet find!

If you're every interested in moving it,  let me know!

I have not cooked on my 1880 so I can't answer about fire control.

That is a pretty clean 1880 Harris. Very nice indeed,
I've got Webers. 10 - WSMs, 5 - 22.5" kettles, 2 - 18.5" kettle, 2 - SJS, 2 - SJP, 4 - WGA, 1 vintage Coolie Pan

Nice one, Harris. Fire management is very similar to the tamale pot wsm. I find a minion with 5 charcoal or so works well to start a smoke. I get 7-8hours of smoking without doing anything special. I've ran it up to 11 hours by packing the charcoal real high. Note that the lower level in these but hot since it's so close to the fire. I've put a clay pot saucer on the lower level to cut radiant heat. I don't usually use water because it runs out so fast. I would totally bend the door back as these early wsm's have a really heavy gauge door.

Any input @mike.stavlund  @ramsfan @argentflame ? They all have one too.

Oh since I know you have a bunch of vintage sj's, some of those grates may fit in the water pan hole. Let us know if you find a grate that fits!

Those are awesome! Are they the same size as the new 14 inchers?

Excellent find, Harris! Welcome to the "C" Club!

Why are these so rare?, other than it being a 14 why are C's so rare?  Nice fine Stephen, hope you show your first cook in this thing.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

C code (1981) is the first official year for the WSM. Their out there but don't come up often. I believe harbormaster has a B code... which is uber rare.

They were made from 1981-1983 and were discontinued due to lack of popularity until they were reissued in 2013. Not exactly sure why, maybe it was a $/volume type of thing. There's only been about 15 documented scores since I've been tracking them in 2011. Most of the 1880's are a "E". There are a few "C's" I've never seen a "D"@fedex also has one. I used to have a list of all the known owners and pics of each one but it's been a while since I've updated it.

Congrats @harris92 .  No issues with mine.

Just wondering, did yours come with the water bowl?  I was lucky,  mine was still with it.  I've read on a lot of sites that most of the bowls are missing.  Congrats again.

Nice one, @fedex. Most of the 1880's I've seen have the water pan- it's the grate that sits insde of it that is usually missing.

Yes, mine did come with the water pan and yes, it was missing a grate.  Also, someone just came forward on TVWBB with an unmarked WSM.  It looks practically brand new.  $75 is not a bad deal.
