Awesome restore, great looking grill. Let's see a cook, I'd really like to know how the heat distributes.

Nice job Marty.  One question, is that white plumbers tape on the threads ?

It's yellow gas tape.

Need flavorers before the first cook, and am waiting for a new set for my 3000 before I can cut down the ones on it now for the Junior. First up will be a roti chicken - Jr. seems taylor made for roti action.

Here's a few more shots of the woodwork in progress. I have a local source for some beautiful clear Western Red Cedar - not cheap, but man is it nice to work with!

Used a combo of stain and penetrating oil.

You probably noticed there are a LOT of slats here. I decided to re-make slats for the Genesis 3000 while I had everything set up. Should be a nice upgrade for that one too.

It's the price I pay for working in one city and living in another. I don't get to play with my grills until the weekends. It's frustrating! Might be able to post a quickie tomorrow night. It's nearly done. I need to create a set up to re-make the handle.

Ha! Marty, you came so far. so fast on this restore. And you're so close. I am anxious to see this guy complete. I restored a red 2000 last week and between your Junior and Dale"s 3000 I will have a solid benchmark for comparison.

Wow Marty
Can't wait to see more.  The wood turned out beautiful.  The time spent and hard work is really showing.

FYI...regarding the Genesis historical write-up, if you were serious about that, I have a Euro Weber publication that has a complete historical breakdown on this grill if you're interested.

Thought I would start with a nice photo to wrap up this thread. These photos were taken about an hour before sunset - perfect time to bring out the gorgeous red lid and wood slats.
Finished the handle today, and a few minor details. Still not ready to cook, but that will happen.Speaking of the handle, here's the set up I came up with.

Pretty easy. Used a straight router bit in two passes followed by a chamfered bit. (mainly because I had them on hand) Quick test fit to check spacing before I did the chamfer.

After some stain and oil, the final look is pretty similar to the original.

Now, on to the record shots.

Before and after

Thanks for hanging in there with me! I'll post again when it's in the rotation. Need to fit a rotisserie rod to this shorty box. All in all a very satisfying restore. Reminds me I need to do the same to my daily driver 3000. Good thing I already have the slats ready!
