  Looks like I have some type of Weber Smoker Box / Grate system with this gasser I just picked up , but I have no idea how use it or which side is up or down :)

It wasn't until I put the grates in that I realized something was off , I had a 3 inch gap and thought the grates were mis matched or something , I had two other strange parts , what looked like a smoker box and another piece that looked like it held the flavoriser bars ?  Today I put the puzzle together and realized I have a smoker box grate system from Weber . I think I have it assembled correctly but don't know which end is up on the smoker box . One side is hinged and the other is full of holes , anyone ever see or use this before ?

Yup, got one on a Genesis platinum. Never used it, but kept it as an interesting part. The grate it came with was shortened. I'll take some pics tomorrow. Hinged end is up, FYI. So you can add more wood during a cook

That's an interesting piece right there......
I think I understand how it fits together, but one pic that's just a bit back from the whole grate might be helpful.....no, nevermind....looked at it for the ninth time & maybe got it......

It may work best if you were to load up the box, close up & turn it over....elseways, the chips or small pieces may fall out he bottom?

Second thought, would it be better still to have the smoke filtering out the bottom of the box, to then cover area under the cooking food?

wild guess #3:  Could you fit......no, that won't work ......I need one of these right in front of me to figure this stuff out !!!!

option #4: Listen to @jkolantern  !!!!

Ha! Deferred to by @1buckie! My Internet career is done! thank you and good night!

If I could learn a much about kettle cooking as he's forgotten, I'll be happy.

@Idahawk, like I said, I'll try to take a better look and possible pics tomorrow.

The way you have it is correct.  Here it is on a Genny 5000 schematic.

That's pretty wild.....so the long, side-to-side bars slide right into the fitting & keep it steady & heat the box.....slick !!!!

@jkolantern  you're way not done yet !!!!

Try not to get too excited, most of the smoke goes straight out the back of the Genesis.

Instructions on how to use the STEAM-N-CHIPS™SMOKER KIT are here.

Pretty much a waste of grill area.

YMMV
