So I hope I am no an outcast for what I did... but I cleaned up a ton of rust and was left with a pitted triangle.  Not all that nice looking.  Since I plan on using this and want to keep rust to a minimum,  I hit the triangle with black Rustoleum.  Its drying now.  Hopefully I can start putting it back together tomorrow.

I think that you will be ok with painting the triangle as it's your grill eh?
