Double-Decker on an 18
« on: September 21, 2014, 06:32:02 PM »
My first venture into cooking with charcoal was 5 years ago with an ECB (El Cheapo Brinkmann) vertical smoker.
I have probably used it maybe only 3 times in the last three years.  Will probably donate it.

The cooking grates from the ECB measure about 15" or so in diameter.
Because the lid on an 18" Weber kettle is shaped differently from a 22", I got to thinking ...
I need to make a 2nd level ... Why not?!?!!  Welded on some legs .... 3 to be exact.

This is close to 3" above the original cooking grate level.  Already used it twice since fabricating this last week.

Very good idea right there.  The bracket with the wing nuts....is that for a side table?  Does the lid not fit as good with the bracket attached?  Reason I ask is when I have attached anything around the edge of the bowl it means the lid doesn't seal up as well.  I stopped thinking about accesories that required it.
"Why do you have so many bbq's?"....."I just like lookin' at em' sometimes....and I have enough purses and shoes"

Nice mod!  I especially like the "toast buns while the burgers cook" application.  I bet it provides just the right amount of heat for perfect burger buns without burning them.  Thanks for posting.
