In Missoula, Montana , I've contacted the seller a very  nice lady who was very appreciative of the information I gave her about this classic grill , to be fair I told her to do some research both here and on webers site and then we could hopefully come to an agreement for purchase , and if not I at least know it's not going to be a fire pit :)

Amazing

Buckie they are not upside down I don't think.  I have a theory...Ernie and I discussed this.  I believe the real early grills had a hole all the way through one handle on one side.  We believe it's for hanging it for spraying the enamel before it gets fired.  I think later they decided to put a hole on the bottom of every handle so there isn't two different part numbers it's all one consistent handle.  So when they need to weld then on prior to hanging it up they could just grab any handle and weld it on they didn't have to desk with two parts.  Plus you can still hang it and it looks a little nicer without a hole on the top on one side.  I can almost guarantee that's why those holes are there to hang them up.  That's exactly how we would do it at the model shop if we needed to paint something.  It needs to hang, you can't set it on anything.  The lid is easy it has a handle for hanging.   That's mine and Ernie's theory and I haven't heard anything better...

quite possible.....never thought of that....is it all the way thru?

Just seems like for the finished product though, wouldn't water collect inside the handle & cause problems over time if it's only on the up side?

Remember, they didn't have snazzy covers way back when...........

Can someone link a pic of a similar grill? I'm dying to see this. Is this one of the buoy kettles?!
