question about a MT

I have a question about the Master Touch and I figured with all this knowledge around here this is the place to go.
My question is about the lid bail. Where it connects to the kettle, are the plastic rollers supposed to be like what's on the Performers or are they more like a plastic dowel (tube-like) ?? I have the dowel type on mine and they are trashed, I don't know if Weber sells the tube type if indeed that's what was on there originally or if the guy I got it from made them. Does this make sense?? On the schematic it looks like dowels as well.

The older Performers...the stainless ones have had the dowel type like yours.  The new ones with the plastic tables have the roller with the lip on either end to hold the lid more in place.  The new ones will fit on yours...but not sure if the older ones are still available or not.  The newer ones are a better design anyways.  Lastly, not sure what year the switch over happened in the style of the roller.

Thanks Jeff. I was just out looking at my two Performers, plastic table  and a S/S. The newer Performer has the big end and small end, and the S/S has a small end on each end. Probably can't get those either..lol..,but.......I was wondering if Brian ever thought about making the dowels or other type rollers out of wood. I know they would get hot  maybe even burst into flames...lol...probably NOT such a good idea.

I dont think Weber offers the dowel style rollers any longer.  Both of the other styles are available but I think it is the luck of the draw in regards to what they send you since both styles have the same number (#63049).  To echo Jeffs comments, the newer style is better.  As you can see, I have a new pair of the dowel style if you want to keep things original.

Indeed I would Stu.If you would like to depart with them I would gladly lighten your load...lol...let me know what you want for them. Also, if you want to get rid of the smaller rollers I would take those off your hands as well...lol...

Interesting. I have never seen the ones with one small and one large end. Is the small end supposed to go against the bowl? ALos, don;t forget the washer. Not sure if they help mitigate the heat or not, but they designed them to be there.
I don;t think wood ones would burn, but they would probably get warm!

yes, the small end against the bowl.
I think the wood dowels would look pretty nice on a Master Touch, done with the same wood as the handles. just my opinion.

I have melted two pairs of the plastic, (both pairs the kind with one large end and one small end), and I think the wood ones would maybe burn....I could try a set but I don't know how they would last...

Just don't make out of a soft wood.. Well, maybe to test with, but I would think a hard wood might hold up.. At what tmep does the plast ic melt or wood burn?
All it needs to be is a piece of dowel with a hole drilled through the center.
