Thanks to Bman for alerting us of the estate sale containing this red MT.  It was well worth the 2 hour round trip get it.

I arrived at the estate sale 1/2 hour early. I was #15 in line. I was a little worried but no one looked to be the type to go there for a Weber grill. I was still nervous. More and more people kept trickling in.

The doors opened and there was a mad rush to get in. Everyone was cutting in front of everyone that had been waiting. I was a little irritated but took my time and headed directly to the garage. It was not in there. I headed to the basement. There she was covered in dust. I walked up to it and opened the lid. I could not believe my eyes. It was unused.

I told the worker that I would take it and he slapped a SOLD label on it. $60 and the unused O MT was mine.

Once I secured the MT I did some browsing.

It belonged to:
Major Robert E. Bjelland,
J.A. Section, Hq USATC
Fort Dix , New Jersey

On the drive home I was wondering if I should ever fire it up since it was unused. I decided to only fire it up on Veterans Day, Memorial day and the 4th of July in honor of Major Bjelland.

Here it is after I pulled it out of the basement.

Unused, complete with charcoal holders.

After wiping it down with a damp cloth:

Only flaw I could find. Looks like a rub mark.

A: When you are not allowed to question it.

Out-friggin-standing! 21 photos and I couldn't get enough.  Glad you made the trip this morning Hatch!
I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

That's an awesome score! Love the non mist MT's. They seem to be less prevalent than the mist ones. That daisy wheel most looks just like my EO One Touch..

Craig

I meant mist not most. Tapatalk won't let me edit posts... :(

Nice work, hatch!  Can't wait to see this in person at a future meetup.  So gorgeous, and such a cool time-machine experience to see photos of one brand-new.

...and I'm glad none of those line-cutters got to the MT first, of you would have had to throw down on behalf of the WKC (sorry, I've been watching too much Sons of Anarchy).
One of the charcoal people.

Great grill and great story. Thanks for sharing all the detailed pictures.

Amazing find.  It still remains a mystery to me how someone takes the time to assemble it, yet never takes the time to use it.
Kettle collector AND cooker!

I think it's great that you are going to fire it up on those days in honor of the original owner. Nice find. She's very pretty.
A Wonderful Family!!!

Great Rescue Hatch- no need to Restore, but you are right on with the Respect angle. I agree with Mike - you need to bring it to our next Meetup.
