I eat at work during the week so I don't get a chance to cook up meat very often unless I skip lunch at work and force everyone to eat something I grill when I get home. My in-laws have been staying with us for a while so I have been making desserts and snacks during the week when I get home just so I can fire up the grill. I did get a chance to cook up some hotdogs for my Daughter last night while I was mixing up the stuff for the cake....my Wife and Mother in-law were at one of the casinos and nobody made anything for dinner....so she asked me to do some dogs on the grill for her , my youngest Grandaughter, and my Father in-law. So I got to make some real grilled food before the baking started. The funny thing was that the wind was pretty fierce yesterday....23+miles an hour with gusts up to 40mph, I started the charcoal in my chimney , which was a challenge....but once the coal got started the wind got the briqs lit in about 5 minutes! I don't remember there ever being as much wind during the summer here in Vegas before... I am convinced that it is NOT global warming but my increasing need to grill that is the cause! If I plan on doing up some ribs or a pork butt or something that is low and slow you can bet that the wind in the valley will go from calm to hurricane intensity by the time I grab some newspaper to start my fire. The wind, by the way was one of the reasons I went with the OTP vs a gold or silver....I wanted something that was stable in higher winds. I couldn't pass on the deal I got on the OTP and it is VERY stable.....while the rest of my outside furniture is blowing across the patio my grill stays put...another reason I love my cast iron grates.....more mass , more solid feel to the ultimate grill!
