That's a dumb question as I'm certain there are.

Our stove top popcorn popper with the handle crank broke long ago and we hadn't made any until recently.

I was determined to use something I already had. I looked up making popcorn in the cast iron Dutch oven.  You can do it but it's really not the tool for the job.

Our large nonstick works ok but not great.

Then I stumbled on a Alton brown video using a carbon steel wok with a makeshift aluminum foil lid with vent hole poked in it.

Absolutely perfect. My favorite option of what I already own and I really like it better than the handle crank kind because it's easier to clean. It also helps build seasoning.

We use Black Jewel popcorn. Check it out if you haven't already.

My daughter makes it all the time since we discovered this technique. At least she did. I will be moving her to college today. A happy and sad day for me.

Me! Me! Me!

Love black jewel, but I can't find it lately. I have a CI, but really need a carbon wok. Using one to make popcorn might just twist my arm far enough.

You will love it!  Light weight, easy to shake, and easy to clean and heats up fast.  I never liked the handle crank kind because they always seemed impossible to clean and demanded too much storage space for a single use item.

My wok was just a cheap one I found on sale at Kroger. Seams like it was $10 or $20 on sale and works great for stir fry.

You probably need to stir with wooden paddle kettle corn style
