I cooked on it a lot after this as it was my only 18" at the time.
Unfortunately the red painted areas turned black. Lesson learned.
Forgive me, I was not trying to be a debbie-downer.

No worries at all, yeah this won't be cooked on so no biggie! I am considering getting something porcelain enameled some day!
