iGrill ambient probe through the top center of the dome lid

I have a Performer Deluxe.  I want to find a way to put an iGrill ambient temperature probe through the top center of the lid, probably through the heat shield.  I want to use a silicone grommet to push the probe through.  Has anyone here done anything like that?

I have not but drilling through a kettle is super easy. I was apprehensive the first time I did it but using a tiny pilot hole and a step bit made short work of it
