Trying out this roasting thing

I want to roast my Thanksgiving turkey like this, so I thought I should try it out with a chicken or two to make sure I'm not stupid.

The coals weren't fully lit when they went into the baskets. I'm going to try to dial in 300-325 - once I know where the vents need to be for that, adding more fuel is pretty trivial if need be on a longer cook. The BGE turkey roaster didn't immediately shatter or catch fire when I put it next to my Webers, so that's a good sign.

I'll post after pics in a little while.

I took out the heat shield and flipped it breasts to the heat at about 50 minutes in. I'm decently happy for my first attempt at this method.

If you use the snake method you don't have to open the lid to turn the chicken.

( ) light the top left side and light the bottom right side, spread your smoking wood along each side,I have used like 4-5 lit briqs to each side and top and bottom vents  wide open.  I spatched my chicken and used a drip pan with water in it, next time I'm going to skip the water and I should get a higher temp (300 on both kettles) and it should crisp and brown the skin better.
