I don't use them anymore, but Kingsford Professional seems to get "hotter" than any briquette I've tried. They burn up too quickly for my liking, but if you're searing a few steaks its fine.

If you want hot, use lump.
I’ve always cooked on Weber coals but lately, they’re almost impossible to find in Charlotte.
