Mini chimney.....
« on: August 31, 2014, 11:25:11 AM »
Just got a couple of these and wondering what amounts everyone uses .  I had been wanting one because my daughter is usually my chimney girl, and she tends to overfill sometimes.

What does one full mini chimney usually get you?
ribs pre-boiling & reaching for the lighter fluid!

I haven't used a full mini chimney yet.  I've used it several time for starting smaller amounts of coals to start my fuse though.  How many you start depends on how hot of a fire you want.  From what I've read, a full mini chimney is a good amount for a Smokey Joe...I'll be finding out soon since I just got a SJG.

I use my mini chimneys when I want to use the charcoal baskets. I light one for each basket. That way the baskets have equal amounts of equally burning coals. ( as opposed to the top/bottom of a large chimney.)

I like to go around a half full mini chimney. Sometimes full.
Most of the time I am doing the Minion Method so I can get a longer burn time.

I use my mini probably 90% of the time now.
Q: How do you know something is bull$h!t?
A: When you are not allowed to question it.

For smoking things, I love using the snake method and the mini chimney is PERFECT for lighting those 10 - 15 start coals.

1st Weber chimney I've ever owned.....like it!!
a full, level one lit gets about 300+ for a decent length of time.....I'm like MacEggs, usually dump in next to, or on top of some unlit to kind of extend the time some..................

I use my mini anytime I plan to cook for less than an hour (most of the time).  I fill it to the top with lump and fire it up.  It is almost always dumped onto a handful of leftover half burnt stuff in the kettle.  If I'm planning on burning for an hour+, then I reach for one of the big chimneys.
