Title: Weber Parts Reference
Post by: DirectDrive on March 25, 2014, 10:09:51 AM
The intent of this thread is to list preferred Weber parts, Weber parts commonality between models, proven aftermarket replacement parts and workarounds.
In short, all those Golden Nuggets that are now scattered across the Interwebz, now all in one place.

I'll start with a thermometer upgrade for a DR code OTS.

The Weber bezel part number is 63027.
This will lead you to 18.5 WSM but it is currently being used on all units with a 1-3/4" diameter face.
It is the lower profile, smooth bezel which I prefer over the higher profile, "fluted" bezel used in previous years.
This bezel has a blind tab that keys into an auxiliary hole on production models.
The Weber thermometers in turn have a tab that keys into the bezel.
This is great for production, but I'm not going to need this feature so I carefully snapped it off of the bezel.

I wanted to upgrade the thermometer from the Weber offering because of their reputation for inaccuracy and fogging up.
The logical choice for me was the Tel-Tru BQ100.
This therm has a "grill range" graduation of 150F - 700F, professional-looking face, 2.13" stem length, ±1% accuracy and requires just a 1/4" hole.
Best of all it's a Tel-Tru, arguably the best made analog temp gauges in the land.

I placed my new gauge in the OEM location (triangulate  5-1/4" +/- from each handle strap).
I used blue tape for layout clarity and drilled an 1/8" hole with a normal high speed drill bit.
Then I used a "step bit" (trade name Uni-Bit) to widen the hole to 1/4".
From there the rest of the install is intuitive.

There is a 1/16" + annular space between the bezel and the gauge.
To hold even spacing and simplify alignment, I used an 1/8" size Zip Tie cut into four pieces.
Spread around the dial at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, these maintain perfect spacing and unify the two elements for easy alignment on the kettle lid.

Add a 1/4" cut (flat) washer to the underside and hand tighten the supplied wing nut.

I purchased the Tel-Tru BQ100 from bbqeqipmentstore.com and the bezel came from ereplacementparts.com

Please feel free to add any Golden Nuggets of your own to this thread.

Happy Grilling !

Edit:
This Tel-Tru was compared to a 63028 WSM gauge and both read the same, so you can get a good Weber gauge.

Weber part #3638
18.5" kettle leg and wheel kit

A local liquidator had these for $13.95
I can confirm that everything but the triangle and ash pan will fit the 22.5" kettle
(recently mentioned on another thread)
Although discontinued, they have appeared on Ebay from time to time.

Weber kettle leg tip substitute.
I really don't like those white caps that Weber uses.
Ace Hardware part #56924 is a perfect replacement.

In case you do like those white leg caps, they are available at Ace- weber leg cap replacement part (http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1286863)

Pic is for 5/8" dia but you can select the proper size on the website or in person.

Correct, 1" caps.
To get them fully seated, I carefully tap them into place with a rubber mallet.

Thank you, DD!!
There are not many ACE stores up here. Not many close by, at least.
Thanks for the pic. I will check out some of the smaller hardware stores for those.  :D
The big box stores tend not to stock stuff like this.

Ok, I'll add one.. If you ever need to replace the casters on an SS Perfomrer or even a newer perfomrer and possibly some gasssers, Home Depot sells a 2 pack for around $5.
Way less than Weber sells them 8)

I'm needing a replacement handle thermometer for my newly acquired MasterTouch. It looks like ereplacementparts has it, but is that the one you would recommend?

I used a Weber 9815. I bought mine on Amazon. They were $9.99 shipped but it looks like there is no longer free shipping.

eReplacement shows a #62538 for a 1st gen Performer which I think is the same therm used in the MT's.
Appears to be a 5-1/2" stem and a 2" dial face.
Yes, the same one was used in the MT.

From Ed Young's....

"Thermometer face measures 1-13/16 inches
Replacement thermometer for Weber Grills with a thermometer hole on the right-side of the lid
Can be used to measure temperature inside barbecue grill or of internal food.
Weber Part #62538. Weber Retail #9815
Stainless steel thermometer with a 5" prong"

Apparently #9815 is just the retail box part number and the therm is the same.

There may be a Tel Tru option but I do not know the critical dimensions of the OEM Weber therm.
GT100R looks like a possible option.
LT225R (BGE replacement) may work if 2" dial face is OK and it has a recalibration nut.

Call and ask for Rebecca....she knows the line well and can help you choose the best therm.
(there is a new-hire Rebecca...you want the other one)

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to find one or the other for a better price, as I think $30 after shipping is too high.

Do you know if the Weber thermometers are made by Tel-Tru? Is there a quality difference between these two options?

I doubt it, would bet that they are Chinese....Tel Tru is a higher quality piece.

Yes, though you will have to break off a small tab from the back of the bezel, but not a big deal.  Good choice on the BQ100.
