Brian once told me (i think it was this morning),
usually kettle karma comes around....hang in there buddy
Boy, you were right. For now, lets just say it is a tale of a seller with a high sense of "the right thing to do", an honest buyer (thats me!), and a transaction that got both parties a fair shake.
I will post more pictures later (likely tomorrow( and lay out the specifics of the story, but right now I need to get on my "honey do" list.
The grill is safely in my garage - a few photos for now:

That's the way to kick Winter back to last year Winz. We need many more pics of course, and we'll happily add this to the growing Westerner gallery. You better have plans to pass this down to your grand kids! Tell us more of the story of where this came from when you get down from cloud 9.

Well, the eBay edition of this grill just sold for $2414.00 + shipping so I think you did pretty good with your recent pickup!

Good for you winz, that rocks! At least you didn't have to pay out of your ass for it.

We need to see some T bones on this baby!
For the Winz!
-
Congratulations Winz.....with all the great grails that have been posted on this site, that kettle is my favorite. Im glad to see there are still a few out there.
-
Except now Winz needs *another* 26-- one he can actually cook on! ;-)
-
There are those that might say, it's a grill...it's meant to be cooked on. Those might be right, might be wrong. If it were me, considering it's probably dirty now anyways, do some huge cook on it. Document it, take photos, the whole nine yards. Then, give it the full cleanup and polish and retire it. I'm guessing you have other "everyday" grills to handle the cooking responsibilities. You are one lucky Westerner owner!
-
With regular deep cleans, id cook on it. Especially for big family get togethers and special occasions. For me it is a joy to pull out a vintage to cook on. Especially for a crowd. It makes for fun conversation and creates great memories. Of course I'd also baby the hell out of it and treat it like a vintage car. Meaning I wouldn't use the original ash catcher for a cook but rather a spare or a "beater" pan.
-
Regardless of what you decide, to Jeff's point, please get some major pics of it in action! Look forward to seeing more of it.
-
I promise - pictures will be coming, although it may take some time.
My first and foremost objective is to document the grill exactly as I received it, and to share that with the forum. I have tried to capture the acquisition process (in real time), and now will move on to the pictures.
My second objective is exactly as Jeff suggested - have at least one good cook on it to celebrate. I just have a feeling that this grill knows exactly how to treat a fat porterhouse.
My third objective is unclear, but planning is half the fun. I will certainly be soliciting the expertise and knowledge of this forum.

Thanks again Craig, that's exactly what I mean. Some collectors prefer to just use them as a show piece and that's up to them and there really isn't anything wrong with it. While I agree that you can cook on another one, you can't build memories with a pristine grill. I'm not a collector in that sense. However, I can still have an ever changing collection of grills that get used.
This year I am taking my son on his first father son camping trip with several other dad's and boys. I was asked to help cook already and have plans to bring the red ranch with me. Those boys will never forget that old grill when I am done. I just don't think a new one would have the same effect and I know it won't in the photo's.

Congrats!!!!!!!! So that's the 4th Westerner that is known to still exist?
-
That baby deserves to cook some mean 2" ribeyes for it's inaugural cook!!!
-
I like this one better than the eBay one. The metal top handle and original wheels look great!
And red ranch?! What that sounds epic too where is the thread on it?

I have Brian's old faded ranch thanks to him I got one of my graills. I'll take an old seasoned grill over a queen any day.
