I thought it might be fun to guess how much this goes for like we did with the nib offset red SJ. Put your guesses here! This will be for final auction value exclusive of shipping. This thread is meant purely for fun and not for rants about expensive desirable kettles.
I guess $1351.50. The winner gets bragging rights and maybe and empty wallet if you're bidding on ebay too. 8) I'll compile it at the top. Good luck ebay bidders and guessers on the sidelines!

$1496.97
It's at $800 and the reserve had been lifted! Looks like this is going to a new home for sure.
-
$800 now. 2K+ definately seems to be the way this one is going.
$2250
-
Now that the reserve has been met, things will slow down until the last day.
-
It's a good looking cooker but what makes it such a desirable piece?

The rarity SlickedBack, can't say I know of anyone who has one. I personally wouldn't spend that kind of cash on a grill. Hell I could go on vacation for what this will sell for.
-
A vacation in a warm place too!! Thank you for filling me in. It is a very nice color scheme.

Other than the one in the auction and this one, (which two WKC members have tried unsuccessfully to buy) all I've ever seen are the ones in the brochures.

$2625.17
And cookie, I bet more than two have reached out about that Westerner. :-X I have seen one other around.
-
I'll bet you are right. ;)
The Westerner, or any old 22"/26" 50's-60's Weber is one that I hope to find back in the corner of a garage/rummage sale someday.
-
Theres a few more out there....

I tried to research it but Google sends me back to us at the WKC. How many were produced is my question?

Unknown as to how many were produced. If my continued research is right, the Westerner was introduced in 1958 as a MTH kettle, though not shown in the 1962 or 1964, or 1966 catalogs, they featured a grey Fleetwood in '62 (Brian's "Grandpa" Kettle) and George Stephen cooking on a red Aristocrat in the '64-'66 catalogs (same image used in both). The Westerner is pictured again as a MBH 26 in the 1967-68 catalog just like the one that's in the auction, but is gone by 1972. We have yet to see any catalogs from 1969-1971, but its a good bet that The Westerner along with the Estate (Chestnut Coppertone/pink 22) were most likely discontinued after 1968 favor of the Copper Mist (brown) line of kettles by 1969 as evident from the earliest known browns having the Patent Pending vents and we have yet to see any Pat. Pending pinks or Steer heads OR browns with pre patent thumbscrews for that matter.
So in short order..... Westerner estimated timeline of manufacture: 1958-1968
Estimated age of the one in the auction based on its rounded tab lid vent.... 1964-1968 or thereabouts. Note: that is my best guess and NOT fact. This is based on examples we have seen of kettles with wood lid handles but still sport squared tabs on Wood Dale stamped lid vents.
Ok, I'll take my nerd glasses off and may the best Grillfella win. 8)

Yep......this is the "Speculation Thread" alright.........
we can't hardly even get figures on much more "normal" kettle production quantities, these small number ones I guess would surely be impossible?

And now $1515.
I'm prepared to be slapped, and I know hobbies are expensive, but, for a "grill" !?? - granted it's "THE" grill, but...
Maybe Weber is trying to buy it back 8)

No, BBQ Boy wants it for his collection in Germany. Weber could care less.
-
Anybody know what this package cost back in the day?
-
Greg, it cost 74.95. Check out the Gallery with the new write up on the Westerner.

For Gawds sake already --- can we get the Age Guide comments back up and running? This is golden information worthy of a copy/paste there.
