So I have noticed there is a lot of different types of ash catcher rings.
There is the first style that goes with the 7409 ash sweep and is on mastertouch and performer ss kettles.

Then from what I can tell there are at least 3 different versions of the later style that attaches using the leg sockets and 4 if you count the ones with the painted ash pot.

so what years/models have which of the later style and exactly what years/models have the earliest style one?
Sorry reposted my red.master touch in the later style pics.

Sorry for the side note but nice polish on some of those. What do you use?

Not that the pots are actually different between the two! The new pot fits in the old 7409 collar but not vice versa!

Interesting ...
Does the original ash ring have an aluminum label on it indicating air-flow position?
I have never seen an MT up here. I do keep my eye out for them, though. ???

Yes and yes ;)
The matertouches and earlier performer ss kettles have that ash ring with the plaque attached indicating the airflow. I like this style the best as they have more appeal to me also I have noticed that the older style doesn't loose ash when sweeping back and forth. The newer ones loose ash out of the air flow arrow indicator slot.
