Has anyone had a problem with the kettle lid crimping / damaging their probe leads? I saw that Ry made the cut in the side of their grill to feed the lines and I don't want to run then through the vent on the lid.

I would not notch the top of the bowl. That rolled steel lip is part of the structural integrity of the bowl.

I just run my wires between bowl and lid and haven’t ruined a probe yet. Drill a hole for a probe port would be a better option then notching

I notched an 18” and although it made things a little easier for wire management then using the grommet I ended up selling it and going back to an un-notched 18” and just putting the wires under the lid. Have done that with the Maverick Et732 and Flame Boss probes crimped under the lid with no problems.

I made a notch in my stick burner but the lid on that thing is at least 20 pounds. I wouldn't think the lid on a kettle would be a problem.
That said...I don't use probes/therms in my kettle...

I would not notch. I’ve drilled one kettle that was not a looker - strictly a cooker and installed a cable gland. It works well for cooks requiring thermometer probes.

I've never had an issue with the wires getting crimped as long as you dont slam the lid down.

Previous owner of my 22WSM notched it. I actually think it’s pretty handy with multiple probe wires.

I usually run my wire down through bottom vent and out ash can holes and then run the probe up through the side of the grate over the top.
No drilling.
