Title: To Keep or Not to Keep - Old Rusty Triangle

So there's the question...... it's in the trashcan ready to go out for tomorrow's pick up.  Pull it out or let it go?  I thought it was way too rusty to mess with, but now I'm second guessing......

Keep it.  Buy a hot water heater drip tray the size of the triangle and gallon of evaporust.  The product is amazing!

Use some 0000 steel wool to get the crusty stuff off then soak overnight submerged in the evaporust.  You may need to flip the triangle midway. 

When done and you have shiny metal again, use some rust oleum clear enamel spray and it will keep the rust from returning.   

I recently did this triangle.   Zoom in.  It was far worse on the bottom.  I now do all my restores that way.

My setup.  I have a 26 triangle in there now.  It doesn’t quite fit, so I drape saturated paper towels over the parts I cannot submerge.  It will fit a 22 and 18.  Cover with foil to stop evaporation.  The evaporust can be reused several times, so it’s a good value.

I have one of those aluminum drip trays but for some reason I thought Evaporust would corrode the aluminum. I was planning on buying a plastic tray but it looks like Evaporust is safe on aluminum.

I actually have a large plastic HWH tray that I used for grates last month.  It’s just the $25/gal evaporust that I’m dealing with when a new triangle is $21.

just build a simple 2x4 frame the size you need, put it on your garage floor and lay a plastic sheet over/in it and fill it with the Evaporrust.

   Broken record time. The Container Store  has an under the bed container which is big enough to hold a 26" triangle, old and new charcoal grates but is a no go for the food grates. They are nation wide so check to see if one is close by.

Yeah, the pan I bought is a water heater pan - large enough for triangles and a 22" food grate.  When I get more rusty parts I may spend the $25/gallon on some evaporust.  Thanks all for your valued input!
