Title: Discussion: SnS Grills Kettle
Post by: LightningBoldtz on March 19, 2020, 08:54:20 AM
I know I saw some of you here on facebook watching David's preview of it.

Thoughts?  I think this is basically the a custom version of the Nepolean and the Sam's Club Grill Mark grill with all the SnS Grills accessories.  Plus slide aside and small side table.

@ABCbarbecue  David, want to talk to a bunch of Kettle heads on what your new grill is all about, especially for those of us who don't have facebook or are wanting to avoid it right now?

I watched the preview, I found the subtle differences to be interesting and well thought out. And Facebook is a cesspool full of bad information right now and most days. IMHO

No thanks.  I like my Webers.

If I didn’t use Weber, I’d go with a PK.

I really like SnS products that complement my Webers...... but there's something about a Weber imitation that turns me off.  Also will not be interested.

Just trying to be light hearted.  Analogous to my Weber only mindset.

I like David Parrish’s approach to quality and innovation.  This new grill has some cool features and I applaud him going head to head with Weber.  Competition is good and usually gives consumers the best product.  That said, it would take a lot to get me to buy another product, so I hope weber doesn’t get complacent.

What's the price point of your customized Sam's Club Members Mark Grill? If you're pricing this in the same price range as the Weber Master Touch (>$200), it's gonna be a hard no unless you include all the SNS accessories with it.  Then you might be getting somewhere.

Just watched the walk around video of it and it’s a well thought out grill. Like the 4 legs , thermo on the vent side , and the smoke port for low smoking.  . Price point will be key.

Lotta hate in this thread, for no reason.  Yes our new kettle is Porcelain, and everything about it is high quality.  It works much better with the Slow 'N Sear than an unmodified Weber kettle for people that want to use the kettle for low and slow smoking.   Believe it or not, most people don't want to mod their kettles.  We've had the request for a dedicated grill from MANY people, and we're making it for THEM.  A few of you weberheads just need to get over yourselves. lol ;)

I see zero hate. Why the insult at the end? I realize you guys make terrific aftermarket products (I've bought some), but to be honest, I'm taken aback by this. I don't doubt that you've done your research and everything you said is true. However, the original poster asked for people's opinions, based on the pic, and those who have posted (which is not 100% of the members, mind you) have given them. I mean you asked Weber Kettle Club members for their thoughts on a Weber kettle knockoff. What did you expect? I personally was hoping for more info on features, benefits, potential price point, etc. Help me understand the why. It's on you guys to sell us, not the other way around, right? I didn't see a video link, so you'll have to forgive me for not knowing more. Thx.

I own many of your products and I like them a lot.  One of my replies complimented your product.

However, I don’t appreciate your reply or the assertion of hate or telling me to get over myself.  That’s certainly not helping me to embrace your new product.  Really disappointing to read, especially coming from the leader of the organization.

So David,  I am not sure it as much hate as much as we have on this forum some very specific preferences with regards to outdoor cookers.  Personally, I like to diversify, I have a kamado, Pellet grills, Gassers and many variety of kettles.

I wanted to bring this up as a discussion point because, hell, I am sick of all the Corona Virus talk.  I think you have an interesting concept, I am interested in what accessories are included and what price point this will come in at.  I think it is a bold move to taking on the leader of the pack but hats off to you.  Good luck David, many on here love your products, not sure the impact of this recent product line for this crowd but you never know.  Good Luck.

I just reread this, not a great response considering many Weberheads buy a lot of your products.  Not sure if it was written in the way it reads (text does not convey emotion) but this doesn't read well at all.  Best of luck to you David.

Price point is targeting under $300 with a Slow 'N Sear and our EasySpin grate as part of the deal.  Hopefully that video link I posted is working as I show off a lot of the key features of the grill.

This new kettle is really targeting folks that are new to BBQ.  Our marketing message today is complicated.  We have to tell them "go buy a kettle with 5" of clearance between the charcoal grate and cooking grate, and a circumference of 22" or more, and then go buy a Slow 'N Sear".  Once we have our own kettle, we can tell them to just buy our grill and they'll be set.

We're not trying to go head to head with Weber.  I still have many Weber products and have no plans to get rid of them.  We're just offering a one stop solution our customers have been asking for.

No go on the video unless you are a Facebook member. I am not. Regardless, I have spent more on your products than I have spent on Weber kettles over the past couple years. Not a lot, but given the limited nature my discretionary budget, that should not spell hate in any way. I have promoted your products in this club and with friends and family. They work great with Weber kettles. Agree with @jhagestad however, this is a WEBER kettle fan club. We do talk about other brands from time to time that are alternatives to Weber in the charcoal world, and there is plenty of Weber bashing that occurs here when they do things that rub us the wrong way. I did not suggest that this is an inappropriate topic here, just that it is off-topic as it relates to WEBER kettles. Of course, that suggestion was killed. Can't fight city hall. Maybe you should start your own club/forum? Good luck competing with Weber and good luck selling your stuff to Weber kettle lovers.

Next question, colors?  I assume probably limited.

That's fair - I assumed you were part of the initial posting (as they had tagged you). Having read the beginning of this thread again, I can see that you did not seek out this feedback. My apologies to you for having made that assumption as that totally baffled me.  But just we're clear, I still don't consider the opinions to be "hate" and I don't think the resulting insult was warranted. Just my two cents. Thx.

I’m curious if you tried any prototype with 3 legs instead of 4?  Minimal number of points to make a plane is 3 which is why 3 legged stools or kettle don’t wobble. How stable is this cooker?

Wobble & stability are not really the same thing.  Basically, it should be more stable with four legs.  In other words, a bit harder to tip over or blow over & likely able to carry more weight.

More importantly, Weber is kind of well know for going after companies making a kettle having 3 legs.  I've never read their legal filings, but will probably get around to it one day, just out of curiosity.

Probably cuz George Stephens & Harold Bremer went to NYC to party together, since they were friends, under the guise of designing their kettles.

Yeah, I read that in your write up and it likely is one reason.  Another reason might be that even if they were not friends, Bremer's product wasn't really much by the way of competition.

I find it interesting from the trademark perspective.  It might potentially raise some interesting trademark issues.  They might all be kind of moot at this point (MAYBE), but might possibly have been more of an issue around the Happy Cooker litigation if HC had been aware.

It sounded like he said "wuhanchina," in one muffled breath. But it could've just been an explosive sneeze, because you can barely hear someone say "bless you," in the background, and the guy holding the camera said

"gazoontite!" right afterwards.
